Cliff Hillis: news

Lancaster PA this FRI 1/15, Phoenixville comin up 2/6 - January 12, 2010

Howdy friends!

Brrrr.... it's still dang cold out there! Hope you all are staying as warm as possible, and just so's ya know, here are two opportunities for you to warm yourself with the restorative powers of rock 'n roll! It really works, I tell ya!

First off, this Friday night in Lancaster PA I'll be rockin' at the Lancaster Dispensing Co. It's a songwriter showcase night starting at 9:30pm, I'm sharing the bill with Mike McMonagle and Bess Rogers. My set will be at 11:30pm and we'll end the evening with a jam "in the round" playing a few random fun covers. For those of you in the area, don't be so Amish! Stay up late and enjoy music, food & beverages with us!

Also, not too far down the road (figuratively and literally for me) I'll be doing a songwriter circle show "in the round" trading off tunes with my pals Nik Everett, Andy King (formerly of The Hooters) and Brian Kenneth (presently of Fooling April!) at Steel City Coffeehouse right here in Phoenixville PA. This will be the only other show I have booked for a while, so I'm hoping lots of P'ville folks will make it out. Lots of great songs & stories will be sung & told, it's a night not to be missed!

And there ya have it. Read below for more details & see you soon!

Thanks for your continued support! -Cliff

Also coming up, Friday January 15th I'll be venturing to Lancaster PA for a Songwriter Showcase at the Lancaster Dispensing Company put on by my friend Tony Kirchner. I haven't played in Lancaster for

see you there!

Looking ahead to February, I'm excited to return to Steel City Coffeehouse Saturday Feb 6th for a songwriter circle show with Nik Everett, Andy King (ex of The Hooters), and Brian Kenneth of Fooling April. Should be a rockin good time so please mark your calendars for that one!

Lastly, in the "other news" dept there are a few cool things brewing
such as: I'll be playing bass with Eric Bazilian (ye of The Hooters)
performing his "Optimist" CD live this Friday night in Bordentown NJ at
The Record Collector (with David Uosikkinen on drums, power trio
style), and Saturday Jan 23rd at the Sellersville Theater (full EB

to be used in Alex Pires' Dewey Beach-based film "Mayor Cupcake"
starring Judd Nelson & Lea Thompson. Stay tuned for more details on
that!

Okay, stay warm everyone and see you at one of these upcoming shows!

Howdy everyone!

So, the Hillis Bros residency at Arena's in Rehoboth is coming to a close tonight TUESDAY 9/29. It should be a rockin' good time & I hope to see a bunch of friends out. We will definitely be pulling out some obscure tunes to round out the season plus bring up some guests so don't miss it!!!

ALSO, it'll be a Rehoboth/Dewey week for me, as I will be back down this coming THURSDAY 10/1 to rock the Dewey Beach Music Conference with the Fwd Thinkers. Honorary Fwd Thinker Roger will be on bass since Greg M. is a brand new dad! We'll hit the Rusty Rudder deck at the very respectable time of 7:40pm on Stage B outside. Come rock out with us and get home in time to catch yer beauty sleep. And did I mention it's FREE? See you there!

I will also be doing a solo acoustic set 4:30pm FRIDAY 10/2 on the "World Cafe Live presents" stage, which is really just Stage A of the Rudder deck during the daytime. It'll be the sensitive side of Cliff!

Looking ahead to next week it'll be a Phoenixville PA Fwd Thinkers trio show w/ Ken & Greg at Steel City Coffehouse WEDNESDAY 10/7. This is a no-cover "Steel City Sessions" show with Rod Kim & Kevn Masch opening.

Alrighty, well with all those options I certainly hope a bunch of folks can make it out. I look forward to seeing you at one or all of the shows!

Thanks so much for all your continued support! -Cliff

upcoming shows & radio podcast - June 16, 2009

Happy almost-Summer everyone!

Just a quick update to remind anyone in the DE area that tonight (Tuesday June 16th) marks the start of the "Hillis brothers Tuesday night Summer residency" at Arena's in Rehoboth Beach. Should be good fun & we'll have occasional guests sitting in as things progress. Please swing on by & get us started on the right foot tonight if you're within driving/walking/stumbling distance!

Also, for those of you in the PA area, this Thursday June 18th I will be opening for Richard Bush & the Peace Creeps at Havana in New Hope. Should be a great night, the Peace Creeps always rock the house & I will most likely be trying out a new song or two. See you there!

And if you aren't able to catch either of those shows but want to hear more information about little ol' me than you'd ever possibly need, then you can check out the podcast of my recent visit to 1520 WCHE in West Chester at this link-

http://soundstage.podomatic.com/entry/2009-06-15T20_43_03-07_00

I had a great time chatting with Charlie Sylvestri & even though I was a bit rough around the edges from lack of sleep I played several acoustic tunes between stories of Chili's Babyback Ribs & tuning John McEnroe's guitar.

Alrighty, thanks & see ya soon! -Cliff

Two great reviews & gigs this weekend! - January 21, 2009

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Wow... what a heavy day yesterday with the inauguration and all. But
I'm not here to talk politics....

What I really wanted to mention was the fact that "The Long Now" just
got two killer reviews. One from Boston's "Amplifier Magazine", and
one from a U.K. reviewer known as "Toxic Pete". While both reviews are
fairly glowing, I must say I was blown away by the Amplifier review,
it's the first time I've ever heard someone mention that I had "the
pluperfect pop voice". Wow!

Read the Amplifier review here:
http://amplifiermagazine.com/reviews/cds/cliff_hillis_cd.php
Read Toxic Pete's review here:
http://www.toxicpete.co.uk/cliffhillis.html
And as if that weren't enough, the online "Audities" music discussion
group has voted "The Long Now" number one on their "Best of 2008"
list!

You can see it here:
http://popunderground.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/audities-best-of-2008/

It's very inspiring to know people like the new CD, I'm in "phase
two" of promotion since the holidays kinda shut things down for a
while. Hopefully there will be some more reviews & radio airplay in
the near future. WXPN continues to give "Elevator" occasional spins
and play "Northern Lights" regularly on their online stream. Woo Hoo!

Lastly, onto this weekend's shows.... don't forget I'll be doing my
first gig at Easton MD's NightCat (formerly Coffee East) this Saturday
night the 24th, it's a songwriter circle and I really hope to see some
friendly faces there!

The next day Sunday the 25th I'll be opening for New York's "The
Wiyo's" at Cooldog House Concerts in Clayton DE (near Smyrna & Dover).
You can email them through the website below to RSVP if you'd like to
attend.

And there ya have it! Thanks so much everyone & hope to see ya soon!

And of course if you wanted to get the actual CD, TallBoy Records is
the place to go:

http://www.tallboyrecords.com/item110.html

Also, I am playing at Steel City Coffeehouse this Wednesday night for
the "Steel City Sessions" show. It'll be an acoustic trio show with
Greg Maragos on bass and Tim Kelly playing percussion. Nik Everett
will do a solo set before us, the night starts at 8pm, we'll be on
between 8:45 & 9:00. Come join us wontcha?

Oh yeah, did I mention this is a FREE SHOW? Yep! So I definitely hope
to see some friendly faces there. ; )

Lastly but not leastly, I just found out I will be part of WXPN's
"The 12 Days of XPN Local Xmas". Starting December 8th they will
feature a different local artist's Christmas song each day as the "My
Morning Download" and the "Philly Local Pick of the Day". Not sure
which day yet, but my Christmas song "On A Day Like Christmas" will be
in there. I'll let ya know when I find out which day!

Alrighty... thanks so much everyone & stay tuned for more exciting
news! -Cliff

more WXPN airplay! make a request... - November 12, 2008

hey everyone!

this evening they played "northern lights" on WXPN's "Y-Rock on XPN" show! thanks to my friend fern for letting me know about it.

I had mentioned the other day that XPN played "elevator" for the philly local pick of the day last week.

if you happen to be tuning in to WXPN on the radio or listening online (http://xpn.org/listen-live), I don't think it'd hurt if you were so inclined to request "elevator" during normal XPN broadcasting, or "northern lights" if you were tuning in to "Y-Rock on XPN". obviously it wouldn't be good to bombard them with requests, but if you did want to make a request you could do so here:

during regular XPN programming- call 215-573-WXPN, or email requests@xpn.org with
"Request A Song" in the subject line and ask for "elevator" by cliff hillis

during "Y-Rock on XPN" programming- either call 1-866-YROCK-HD (1-866-976-2543), or listen for who the host is and swing by here http://xpn.org/yrock-on-xpn/hosts to get info on emailing or texting them a request. you have to email the host who is on at that particular time. I would suggest asking to hear "northern lights" by cliff hillis. ; )

alrighty... 'nuff said!

thanks everyone! -cliff
